Research interests:

  • voting power indices
  • the European Union

Project in PCRC:

My main research interest is decision making in the Parliament of Finland (Eduskunta). The purpose is to analyse political dimensions, voting cohesion and MP networks in Eduskunta. In addition to plenary vote data I have collected data on MP legislative initiatives. These datasets will be examined using data mining techniques or indices (e.g. the Rice index).

Regarding voting power indices my main interest lies in situation where voting abstention is allowed. So far only very few publications and research exist in this field. My other interests here lie in the enhancement of effectiveness of some computer programs created in the MOPI-project.

I participated (together with the late professor Mika Widgrén) in the ‘Decision Making in the EU’ (DEU) project. The resulting joint book of the project (and other studies) are based on a unique data regarding the EU Council. These data were collected in the DEU project. I continue research on this topic.
