Project in PCRC:

1. Why do we observe externalities or lack of them? A classification.

We provide a classification of reasons behind actions that produce negative externalities or lack of actions that produce positive externalties. This theoretical work is based on rational choice literature, and discusses e.g. failures of selective incentive implementation.

2. Selective incentives and structural power: how social groups affect norm- and rule implementation?

Using Institutional Analysis and Development (IAD) -framework we discuss the interaction between two sets of action situations: (1) ongoing collective good provision within some social group, and (2) selective incentive implementation. Using the smallest common denominator description of (1), we set up a game theoretical model that provides a theoretical measure of micro-micro power relations in it, and point out how this power may enter into mechanisms that, according to the literature, are important for selective incentive implementation.

3. Anti-norm agreements and their efficiency against sanctioning mechanisms

We introduce the concept of anti-norm agreement. We show that anti-norm agreements are never efficient against the norm in perfect social systems. Dropping the assumption of perfect social system, we test the robustness of some (norm enforcing) sanctioning mechanisms against anti-norm agreements. This work uses the linear system of action introduced by James Coleman.
