Project in PCRC:

The study concerns ethical and conceptual issues arising from modern biotechnology risk policymaking and the related academic and public debates. Specifically, I will apply a philosophical approach to scrutinise (1) the precautionary principle/approach, (2) public engagement and consultation practices on the deliberative release into the environment and placing on the market of genetically modified organisms (GMOs), and (3) the possibility and nature of bioethical expertise in risk issues with a special emphasis on NECs. The framework of this analysis is environmental (and health) risk governance, including the related law and policy. A special consideration is given to the European Union (EU) level decision-making practices, and to the Finnish perspective.
