Education for Children with Learning Disabilities: African-European Co-operation for Promoting Higher Education and Research

In Kenya, Namibia and Zambia, like in most developing countries, learning disabilities have a significant effect on primary (basic) school children?s school attendance and achievement. The role of teachers, special education teachers and psychologists is crucial in the identification and treatment of learning disabilities. However, the current training programmes are unable to provide adequate knowledge and skills on learning disabilities for the teachers, special education teachers and psychologists. Thus the aim of the Education for Children with Learning Disabilities: African-European Co-operation for Promoting Higher Education and Research project is to improve primary school children?s school attendance and achievement in Kenya, Namibia, and Zambia by enhancing the skills and knowledge of educationalists (teachers, special education teachers and psychologists) in the area of learning disabilities.

The project term is 36 months from August 2008 till August 2011. The total funding is 596 360 Euros of which the EU co-funding is 500 000 Euros.
